Main Idea

How do animals travel from one place to another? Many words describe their movements. It is fun to learn how animals move by acting them out!


Activity Prep

  • Download & print the PDF below

  • Scissors (*Please help with scissors as needed.)


How to Use

Step 1:

First, check all the animals on the PDF printout and see if the students know their movements. Many videos are available as examples if they don't understand how they move.

Step 2:

Once students learn about each animal's movements, it's time for an activity. Cut out the items on the PDF with scissors. (*Please help with scissors as needed.)

Idea 1: Master the Words

  1. Only use "Movement cards."

  2. Create a face down pile and pick one card from it.

  3. Act out how your body moves to match the word.

  4. Take turns.

Idea 2: Learn the Animal

  1. Only use "Animal cards."

  2. Create a face down pile and pick one card from it.

  3. Act out how your body moves to match the animal.

  4. Take turns.

Idea 3: Match Animal and Movements

  1. Spread the "Movement cards" face up.

  2. Create the "Animal Cards" pile and pick one card from it.

  3. Students pick matching "Movement cards.” *They can choose multiple cards.

  4. Review together to check if the movements match.

National Geographic Kids has so many episodes of the Amazing Animals Series. Each episode is short (under 2 - 3 minutes) and giggly. It's perfect to show the students a quick example or information about a specific animal.
