Eco-Friendly Crafting: Up-cycle to Create DIY Foam Stamps

A child created foam stamps using upcycled materials that we no longer needed at home. It turned out to be an enjoyable DIY activity with kids.

Main Idea

We created foam stamps using upcycled materials that we no longer needed at home. It turned out to be an enjoyable DIY activity with kids.

Activity Prep

(What we used)

  • Craft foam sheets (You can also use Styrofoam, like what takeout food containers are made of, as an alternative)

  • Ballpoint pen

  • Any plastic bottle caps (like the lid from a water bottle or a milk jar)

  • Hot melt glue gun

  • Ink pad

How We Played

  1. Draw on the foam with a ballpoint pen, pressing harder as if you are carving it.

  2. Heat the hot glue gun and glue the plastic bottle cap to the back of the foam as a stamp handle. (**Be cautious when using hot glue, as it can get very hot. Please assist with this process if needed.)

  3. Use the ink pad to enjoy your stamp!

We enjoyed this activity, especially the part where we could draw and create our own favorite stamp. My son loved the main character from the video game "Katamari Damacy Reroll," so he made a stamp of that character. It was also great to learn that items from the recycle bin or trash can can be turned into something awesome!
