This activity aims to help students recognize the difference between a period, a question mark, and an exclamation mark by listening to the tones used during reading.

Activity Prep

• Download & print the PDF below  (For the reader or the teacher)

• The Punctuation Flags (period, question mark, and exclamation mark) from the previous exercise.

• Scissors (*Please help with scissors as needed.)

How to Play

Number of Players:  

• Reader: 1 (The teacher or the student who wants to read)

• Player: Up to 10

Setup: 

1. Download and print the PDF

2. Cut out all the cards. (Please help with scissors as needed.)

3. Create a face-down deck for the reader.

4. The reader will keep the deck.  

Playing: 

1. The reader draws a card from the top and reads it aloud without showing it to the players.

2. Players guess the correct end punctuation and raise the matching flag.

3. The reader confirms the correct punctuation and moves on to the next card.

4. Keep playing!
