Students will learn to count numbers from 2 to 12 by rolling two dice. They will practice adding the numbers on the dice through repeated counting.


Activity Prep

  • Download & print the PDF below

  • Writing tools (pencils, colored pencils, markers, etc)

  • 2 dice

  • Coloring tools (dot markers, crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc)

  • Stickers


How to Play

Number of Players: 

  • 1 - 4 players

Setup:

  1. Download and print the PDF.

Playing:

  1. The first player rolls two dice and counts the dots.

  2. If the numbers match, quickly add a sticker, color, or draw on that number to decorate the cake.

  3. Take turns and keep track of the decorated numbers. If the numbers is already decorated, skip your turn.

  4. Check how the cake looks with all the decorations!

  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.1 (Count to 100 by ones and by tens.)

  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.3 (Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).

  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4.A (When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.)
