Goal

Operations and Algebraic Thinking

Students will learn how to make five into pairs in more than one way by playing with different colors of LEGO Bricks.

Activity Prep

  • Download & print the PDF below

  • Writing tools (pencils, colored pencils, markers, etc.)

  • LEGO Bricks (Any color of bricks is good. We use yellow, green, red, pink, and blue pieces for the printout)

How to Use

  1. Download and print the PDF below.

  2. The printout shows multiple ways to make a tower with 5 bricks.

  3. Students can use two colors of bricks to create a set of 5.

  4. For example, if the question shows 1 yellow brick, then they can connect 4 red bricks (of any color) to make 5. (1 + 4 = 5)

  5. Color the bricks on the printout with the colors they used, then fill in the number that matches how many bricks they connected in the box.

  6. Move on to the next question.

Teachers

  • After students complete the worksheet, please review their answers and help them if you find any mistakes.
