Goal

Operations and Algebraic Thinking

Students will practice another method of adding numbers, stacking numbers in a column to add them easily.


Activity Prep

  • Download & print the PDF below

  • Writing tools (pencils, colored pencils, markers, etc.)

  • 2 sets of 10 LEGO bricks—same size, two colors (Example: 10 red and 10 yellow LEGO bricks, all same size)


How to Use (Page 1)

  1. Read the instructions with the teacher.

  2. Follow the instructions step by step, then examine the images of bricks and write the correct numbers in the boxes to solve the problems.


How to Use (Page 2)

  1. Students create two sets of stacked LEGO pieces that match the example image. 

  2. Then, put both sets together and examine the total number of pieces.

  3. Finally, fill in the numbers to solve the problems.

  • After students complete the worksheet, please review their answers and assist them with any mistakes.
