Design Your Adventure: Draw, Color, and Craft a Legend of Zelda-Inspired Archery Target
Main Idea
Have you ever created something with Perler Beads? Perler Beads, also known as fuse beads, are small plastic beads that melt when heated with an iron, then stick together and form shapes. It’s great for making the pixel art. This is a great activity, especially for kids who enjoy arts and crafts or puzzles.
Activity Prep
(What we used)
Piece of cardboard
Sharpie
Crayons (Crayons are not easily smudged by rain.)
Binder clips
Toy bow and arrow sets, toy swords, or toy shields. (You can also make your own toy swords and shields using cardboard.)
Story
“Mommy. Call me Link. Where is my bow?”
My son became a huge fan of the video game Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when he saw his dad playing. He began calling himself Link and always pretended to be Link all day. He couldn't stop drawing all the characters and their stats. It was amazing to see how deeply he loved something.
When his grandma made the Link costume for him, we gave him a toy bow and arrows to match. To make playtime even more exciting, we drew characters from the game and created them as archery targets!
How We Did
His dad first drew the characters he liked with a Sharpie. Then, my son colored them in.
We carefully removed the silver parts from the binder clips and secured the center part of each cardboard bottom. It helps the cardboard stand better.
It took time, but it was so worth it! He loved fighting monsters in our backyard so many times over the years!
