Fun Hands on Activities with Kids

Interactive Sensory Play: Test Your Taste Skills Without Senses

The spoons hold tasting items: peanut butter, maple syrup, jam, steak sauce, and chocolate syrup for a fun STEAM activity about taste.

Main Idea

Can you tell the taste without smell or sight? While learning about human body and sense of taste, we tried this tasting experiment for fun.

Activity Prep

(What we used)

  • Spoons

  • Tasting items (We used peanut butter, maple syrup, jam, steak sauce, and chocolate syrup)

  • Items you can cover your kid's eyes and nose (We used a bandana and hat for the eyes, and facial tissue for the nose)

Step 1. We covered my son's eyes with a bandana and hat. Then, we stuffed the nose with facial tissue.

We covered the spoons with a board to hide them. Then, I helped my son taste each item one by one. He realized some were very hard to identify without smelling or seeing. I highly recommend taking a result. We were too excited and forgot to do so.
