How to Use

Step 1: Reading on Page 1

• Let's read the story together and learn how to use the question word "Why."

Note

• Please hold the characters' flags like a puppet show.

• Please read the conversation between the two characters using the question word "Why."

• *Questions that start with "why" can be difficult for young students. Start by asking them simple questions, then follow up by asking for reasons using "why."

  For example: "What is your favorite book?" "Why is it your favorite?"

Step 2: Practice on Page 2

1. Practice writing the question word "Why."

2. The teacher can act like the Scrubby and ask questions one at a time.

3. Students will answer the question in the way they choose. They can speak their answer, draw it, or write it if they want a challenge. Don’t worry about spelling mistakes!

Step 3: Question Time!

Playing: 

1. Gather around the teacher.

2. The teacher will choose a student and ask a few questions.

3. The first question will be, “What is your favorite ______?"‍ ‍

4. Please answer this question.

5. Then the teacher will ask, "Why is it your favorite?"

6. Please share your reason.

7. The teacher will choose a different student and ask a new question. Continue this until time runs out!
