Students engage in pretend play at a pizza shop, practicing counting by tens and using ten-dollar bills in a fun, interactive setting that reinforces math skills.

Count by Tens - Pizza Shop

Goal

Counting and Cardinality: K.CC.A.1

Through pretend play at the pizza shop, the student will learn to count by tens and practice using ten-dollar bills.


Activity Prep

  • Download & print the PDF below

  • Scissors (*Please help with scissors as needed.)

  • Ten-dollar cards from the previous lesson


How to Play

Number of Players: 

  • 1 - 2 Shoppers (co-op)

  • Teacher as the cashier

Setup: 

    1. Download and print the PDF.

    2. Cut out the item cards.

    3. The cashier will display all the item cards on the table.

    4. The shoppers will start with at least 10 ten-dollar bills each.

Playing: 

    1. Take on the roles of shoppers and the cashier.

    2. The shoppers will select a random number of item cards as if they are shopping.

    3. The shoppers will bring the item cards to the cashier to pay.

    4. The cashier will tell them the total cost.

    5. The shoppers must pay with the correct number of ten-dollar cards while counting aloud.

    6. Feel free to switch roles.
