Activity Prep

  • Download & print the PDF below

  • Scissors (*Please help with scissors as needed.)

  • Optional: Card sleeves (Trading card sleeves work great!)

*We used regular print paper and card sleeves to make the cards sturdier, so they are easy for little hands to use and reuse!

How to Use (Setup)

  1. Download & print the PDF.

  2. Cut out the cards from the printout.

How to Use 1: Introducing Words

  1. The teacher introduces the measurement words: heavy and light.

  2. Ask students to name any real-life items they know that are “heavy” or “light.”

How to Use 2: Comparing Two Images

  1. Show two cards at once (Example: a bowling ball and a beach ball).

  2. Ask questions to students: Which image shows a heavy ball? Which one shows a light ball?

How to Use 3: Sorting

  1. Randomly spread out all image cards face up on a table.

  2. Students will sort the images into two groups: heavy and light.

Teachers
