    • 2 straws

    • (Optional) Heavy-duty packaging tape

Story

My son’s school was having the event where students could dress up as their favorite book characters. He must have forgotten to tell me, but the event was scheduled for the next day!!

My son told me he wanted to be Gerald, the character from his favorite book series, Elephant and Piggie. I needed to gather anything we had at home to finish this costume by the next day! I must do this quickly!

How I Made: Elephant Gerald's Costume

Very easy and quick DIY costume of Gerald from Elephant and Piggie book series
  1. First, I grabbed my three grey socks. One sock would be the elephant trunk, and the other two would be the ears.

  2. I folded the tops of the two socks and sewed them to each side of the grey hoodie like ears for when he wore the hood.

  3. I sewed one sock to the center of the joke glasses to create Gerald's trunk.

I could have used tape to attach the socks, but since my son was very active, I sewed them on to make them more secure.

How I Made: Speech Bubble Banner

Speech Bubble inspired by Elephant and Piggie Book series

I loved the speech bubbles in the Elephant and Piggie books, so I made a banner using my son's favorite line from one of the books: "BANANA!"

  1. I designed a speech bubble with the book's word "BANANA!". (You can also create the speech bubble by cutting gray construction paper!)

  2. After printing it out, I glued the printed paper onto a piece of cardboard and carefully cut it out.

  3. This process is optional. It would rain on the event day, so I used heavy-duty packaging tape to cover the banner. The tape kept the printer ink from smudging. Waterproof!

  4. I attached two straws to the back of the banner using packaging tape.

It turned out good for a quick, one-hour DIY costume project!
