Goal

Number and Operations in Base Ten

Play a speedy game to build numbers from 11 to 19 by composing 10s and ones, using a worksheet with dot cards from the previous activity.


Activity Prep


How to Play

Number of Players: 

  • 2 players *A teacher can join if needed.

Setup:

  1. Choose Player 1 and Player 2.

  2. Player 1 holds dot cards numbered from 1 to 9.

  3. Player 2 holds dot cards numbered from 11 to 19.

Playing:

  1. Start the stopwatch!

  2. Player 2 places one card (11–19) as the answer.

  3. Player 1 selects a card (1–9) to complete the 10 + ___ equation. Example: If Player 2 places “15,” Player 1 places “5” to show 15 = 10 + 5.

  4. If the combination is correct, Player 2 places the next card.

  5. Continue until all cards are used.

  6. Stop the stopwatch to see your total time!

  7. Switch roles and play again. Try to beat your previous time!
